DAY 1: WELCOME TO LISBON!
Arrival and transfer to the hotel. Check-in and accommodation in Lisbon for 2 nights.
DAY 2: EXPLORE LISBON AND ITS SURROUNDINGS
In the morning you will visit the city of Lisbon, including the typical medieval districts such as Alfama, Chiado, emblematic squares such as Rossio or Praça do Comercio, and ending with the historic district of Belem where emblematic medieval monuments such as Jeronimos Monastery, Belem Tower or Discoveries Monument are located. You also will have the opportunity to enjoy Lisbon from the river! We prepared for you 1 hour exciting boat trip so that you can admire this beautiful city from the Tagus river. If you are lucky, you will meet dolphins jumping out of the water!
Next spot will be Sintra, the small medieval town where the Portuguese Royal Family once summered! In Sintra, there is also mainland Europe’s westernmost point, Cabo da Roca, as well as the quite amazing Boca do Inferno (“Hell’s Mouth”) on your coastal sightseeing tour. The tour also takes you to the cosmopolitan town of Cascais, a typical fishing village turned into a beautiful seaside resort, and also Estoril, with its Casino and tropical gardens.
DAY 3: LISBOA – QUINTA DO GRADIL – ÓBIDOS – ALCOBAÇA
In this day you leave Lisbon. The first stop will be at Quinta do Gradil wine estate, a beautiful property dated from the XV century. Here you will visit the vineyards and you are going to do a wine tasting from the wines produced here. Next, you will discover Óbidos, a medieval town and fortress whose original walls are still preserved and make the site majestic. Here you will have some time to stroll through the narrow streets, alleys full of history and you can also taste the typical liquor of the region, the “Ginginha” (cherry liquor) served in chocolate shots. You will stay in Alcobaça this night, another medieval city, well known for its magnificent Monastery, UNESCO World Heritage..
DAY 4: ALCOBAÇA – PORTO
Departure to Porto, capital of northern Portugal and the second-largest city in the country. You will visit this magnificent city and taste Port wine in one of its 58 Port wine cellars. Douro river banks are linked by three technically outstanding bridges, one of these designed by the French engineer Gustave Eiffel.
Finish the tour with a 50 minutes boat cruise aboard a Rabelo boat, to enjoy the unique beauty of the Douro River, meeting the edges of the cities of Porto and Gaia. Check-in and overnight.
DAY 5: PORTO – DOURO VALLEY – TOMAR
In the Douro Valley, you can explore one of the most fantastic landscapes spectacularly transformed by man. This region is classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is known by the name of the "enchanted valley", being also the demarcated area for the production of the Port wine. Afterwards, arrival in Régua, a town located in the heart of the Douro Valley. You will visit one of the many wine estates existing in this region, where we will see the process of making the world-renowned Port wine and taste its exquisite wines.
Leave the north of the country and return south towards the medieval city of Tomar, the ancient headquarters of the Order of the Templars. The greatest exponent of its flowering period is the 12th century Convent of Christ, one of the most important works of the Renaissance in Portugal. Time for accommodation.
DAY 6: TOMAR – ALMOUROL – ÉVORA
The day starts with a breakfast at the Hotel. Next you will visit the magnificent medieval city of Tomar, the most important site of the Templar history in the Iberian Peninsula, since here is the Castle-Convent of Christ, as well as a majestic church, practically intact. The Order of the Templars existed from 1118 to 1307, when the Pope ordered its suppression and the confiscation of its properties. In addition to the magnificent Templar Castle, known as the Convent of Christ, a visit to the Jewish quarter from the mid 14th century, the oldest in Portugal, is recommended. On the way to Évora, you will have the opportunity to admire another impressive work belonging to the Templars: the enigmatic Almourol Templar Castle, one of the most emblematic castles from the time of the Christian Reconquest, located on a small island in the middle of the Tagus River and whose works of reconstruction date from the twelfth century. Finally, you will arrive in the Alentejo province, very popular for its high-quality wines. The stay will be in the capital of Alentejo region: Évora, a monumental medieval city and a World Heritage Site.
DAY 7: ÉVORA – AZEITÃO – LISBOA
Breakfast at the Hotel followed by a tour in the historic center of Evora, where there are important monuments such as the ruins of the Roman Temple of Diana, the medieval Church of San Francisco, as well as its magnificent Cathedral.
The visit to Evora will end with the visit of a very popular winery near Evora tasting the popular Alentejo wines. On the way to Lisbon, you will stop in Azeitão, a popular site for its stunning cheese and vineyards producing the Moscatel grapes, destined for one of Portugal’s classic sweet wines, DOC Setúbal. Here you will visit one of the most famous wine estate in the country and we will be delighted with some of the most popular wines produced there.
Return to Lisbon and time for leisure. Check-in and accommodation.
DAY 8: FLIGHT BACK HOME
Breakfast at the hotel. Check-out and transfer to Lisbon airport.
